How to find Accommodation as a Digital Nomad
Living the nomadic lifestyle means having no permanent home. As a digital nomad, you’re on an eternal quest to find somewhere to rest your head. It’s part of the game. But it might be good to have a list of resources handy, to make the search a bit easier. That begs the question: how to find Accommodation as a Digital Nomad?
That’s exactly what we want to help you with today!
A Home away from Home
Even when you’re traveling, it might be nice to feel at home for a bit. Airbnb is a great resource for that. Whilst living in a hotel or hostel can be nice, having a proper house or apartment to stay in for a while, might just feel a bit cozier. Airbnb actually reports that there has been an increase in people staying in their listings long-term (more than 28 days), meaning that this option is more popular than ever.
And we can understand why. Even if the apartment isn’t decorated exactly to your liking, it will definitely feel more permanent than a hotel. And sometimes that can be nice. This is also a great option if you like to do your own cooking, which will also save you a lot of money. There are thousands of hosts out there, from all over the world waiting for you to get in touch. Just make sure you take a look at some of the ratings before you book, to avoid any unnecessary disappointments!
Hotels
Some of us just want to feel like we’re on constant vacation (even though we actually have work to do). Then a hotel might be the perfect accommodation for you! Hotels.com and Booking.com are great resources to find good and affordable hotels, even for long-term stays. They will let you search for hotels in any area, and you can filter your search to suit your budget.
Expert Tip
Another great feature of these websites is that you can see ratings from other customers. In this way, you’ll be sure to find the quality you’re looking for. If that wasn’t enough, we also got an insider tip for you; on Hotels.com, you should make sure to register an account on the site, as it makes you eligible for discounted rates (and even free stays!). This opportunity is not one to miss.
TripAdvisor
TripAdvisor is a website every traveler should know about. It’s not only good for checking the quality of that fine-looking restaurant on the corner, but it’s also great for finding accommodation as a digital nomad. TripAdvisor compares rates across websites to make sure you get the best possible deals on hotels.
A wise traveler consults TripAdvisor for guidance before booking a stay. You can also see lists of the best hotels in your area. If you’re on a tight budget, you can also find some pretty good hostels!
G Adventures
There are many amazing guided tours that can take you through whole countries and even continents, including accommodation!
Companies like G Adventures have all kinds of options in all kinds of price ranges. Everything is very well taken care of with locals working for the company. It truly feels like you get to know the culture, people, and places you visit. To learn more about how to get familiar with new cultures, have a look at our article on how to make friends as a digital nomad.
We highly recommend G Adventures, as we did amazing trips with them in Peru, Mexico & Cuba! You can use our affiliate link to book your trip with G Adventures.
Discounted rates
Who doesn’t love a good discount? We know we do. There are plenty of good websites out there with one mission in mind; to find the best possible discounts for you.
Snaptravel
Snaptravel is one of them. The company promises to find all the best, secret hotel deals. The best part is that you can communicate and book with them on Facebook Messenger!
We know it might sound a bit too good to be true, but the company actually has a really good rating on Trustpilot. This means that a lot of other customers are happy with their services.
Hotwire
Another great resource you can check out is Hotwire. The website offers great discounts on hotels all over the world. The only drawback is that you won’t actually know the name of the hotel before you book.
You’ll be informed of the general area of the hotel, as well as ratings from other guests, so you most likely won’t get disappointed.
Luxury Options: VeryChic & SecretEscapes
If you identify as a bit of a luxurious nomad, we have two other great resources for you as well. VeryChic and SecretEscapes offer luxury accommodation for a highly discounted price, sometimes as much as 70% off! If you check the pages regularly, you’ll definitely be able to find some pretty good deals.
The ‘I just need a roof’ nomad
Let’s face it, sometimes we spend a bit too much money on that one flight ticket to the place you just really, really wanted to go to. That leaves little money for accommodation – but fret not, there is a solution.
Couch Surfing
If you find yourself with no extra money to spend on either a hotel or hostel, you might find free accommodation through Couch Surfing. All you need to do is create an account on the website, and then you can start searching for people hosting in your area of choice.
You need to keep in mind that the people on the platform are not vetted as hosts, and you will have full responsibility for your own safety. So, make sure to choose a host with good ratings, and be extra careful if you’re traveling solo.
Facebook Groups
If you’re a female traveler, and you prefer to stay with a female host, you can also check out the group ‘Host a sister’ on Facebook. This is a community of more than 200,000 females from around the world, many of them willing to host other females on a regular basis.
This is a great opportunity to not only save money but also to connect with people from around the world. Maybe you get your own tourist guide, or even make a long-lasting friendship on the way? Check out our article on how to make friends when traveling.
Start your journey!
Just because we’re nomads, it doesn’t mean that we can’t spoil ourselves once in a while, right? Make sure to write down all the resources we have provided you with, and get ready for your next travel!
I love Host a sister group and also recommend Travel Ladies app which is a couchsurfng app for female travellers.
